History of the Bible, Bible Translations & Doctrines ~ Introduction

I remind you again of the purpose of history. Without history we are at the mercy of our own ideas and rationalisations. Biblical history provides us with information we can use to review and understand situations and make decisions. This is one of the reasons for getting into the Bible daily - we need more data to move effectively into life than our own experience can give us. Biblical history not only reveals to us how best to live, but also how not to live. It provides many wonderful and practical examples, sharing with us the experience of those who have gone on the journey before us. If it wasn't for Scripture we would have to begin every day from scratch, spend much of our time backtracking, correcting, or starting all over. Christian pilgrims walk along worn paths. Obedience has a history.
