Isaiah Thirty Five

Isaiah 35:1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

blossom as the rose. After the desolations left by the tribulation catastrophes, the earth's geography and climatology will have been restored to pristine antediluvian conditions. Originally there were no deserts or other uninhabitable regions, for all was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). These conditions will be restored, at least in some measure, during the coming kingdom age on earth.

Isaiah 35:2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God.

Isaiah 35:3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

weak hands. This is good advice for the believer, in any age. See Job 4:3-4; Hebrews 12:12.

Isaiah 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

Isaiah 35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

Isaiah 35:6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

waters break out. Further descriptions of millennial conditions (see Isaiah 35:1, above) are found in Isaiah 51:3 (“like Eden”); Isaiah 65:20-25; and many others.

Isaiah 35:7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

habitation of dragons. Note also Jeremiah 51:34, 37. Fossil evidence indicates that dinosaurs came in many sizes, large and small. The same was true of the supposedly legendary dragons of antiquity. Thus dragons (probably the same as dinosaurs) could both “hiss” and “roar” and “yelp” (Jeremiah 51:38).

Isaiah 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

an highway. See note on Isaiah 19:23.

Isaiah 35:9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:

Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

ransomed of the Lord. When the people of Israel recognize the returning Jesus as their Messiah, and “look upon [Him] whom they have pierced” (Zechariah 12:10), they will acknowledge that the very blood of Christ shed by their fathers was the ransom price for their salvation.
